I am asking on behalf of a co-worker.

He was waxing his truck the other day in his garage. His daughter came home and parked in the driveway to the side of where he'd be backing out.

He has been fighting off the flu so he was on meds. As he backed out, he scraped along her mirror (actually broke it). The plastic rubbed off onto his truck paint. He isn't sure how to get the plastic off. He's thinking a hair dryer to warm it up to see if he can pop it off. He tried polishing compound, but it didn't touch it.

Anyone run into this and, if so, whaddja do to get it off? Open to ideas - I'll pass 'em on!

My wife's, bright yellow Mustang, had some plastic transfer, from someone, clipping her rear bumper cover...I used Flitz metal polish, and some good ol fashion elbow grease, and it came right off, as long as its a light scuff, he should be ok...if it scratched into the paint....may have a problem..

get a stripe remover wheel from any auto paint place, looks like a big rubber wheel you put on a drill. It won't hurt the paint and will take that stuff right off without damaging the clear (provided he doesn't hold it over the same spot).

Thanks guys - I'll pass it on. He's bothered by it 'cause he's only had his truck for 3 months.

The important question here is; Is it a Ford? And if it is, why isn't he here?

you can try some lacquer thinner on a damp rag. basically the same as goo gone. just do NOT use anything stronger such as pure acetone that will screw up the clear coat

I agree with him. If it's the factory paint job you can use straight lacquer thinner. It won't hurt factory paint, now if it was freshly painted, that's a different story.
